The 40th Anniversary Edition celebrates 40 years of the legendary Kawasaki Ninja with a special colour and logos.
To celebrate 40 years of the legendary Kawasaki Ninja, the Anniversary Edition Ninja 650L has been dressed to impress with an iconic two-tone Firecracker Red and Ebony colouring with silver stripes. Silver rim-tape lines the black 17” rims.
The period correct, outlined “Kawasaki” and “Ninja” logos have been carefully recreated and adorn the fairing and tank, and a retro “Liquid-Cooled” logo takes the look of the bike back to yesteryear.
Finally, a bespoke 40th Anniversary badge on the tank completes the look.
Tuning of the 649 cc Parallel Twin engine focused on achieving a throttle response that balanced a powerful feeling and a quick-revving character. To optimise performance for everyday riding, care was taken to maximise low-mid range torque. When opening the throttle, riders will notice an extremely smooth and powerful engine character that offers both a high level of control when making minute throttle adjustments and a gratifying rush of acceleration in the lower rpm ranges.
The clutch uses two types of cams (an assist cam and a slipper cam), offering new functions not available on a standard clutch. This allows the total clutch spring load to be reduced, resulting in a lighter clutch lever pull when operating the clutch. When excessive engine braking occurs – as a result of quick downshifts (or an accidental downshift) – the slipper cam comes into play, forcing the clutch hub and operating plate apart. This relieves pressure on the clutch plates to reduce back-torque and prevent the rear tyre hopping and skidding.
A Horizontal Back-link rear suspension offers a progressive character and delivers a balance of sporty performance and ride comfort. The telescopic front fork is a part of a balanced suspension package, tuned to provide progressive damping with a high level of feedback to the rider.
Dual 300 mm front petal disc brakes deliver plenty of braking power. Dual-piston front calipers, master cylinder and brake pads offer superb brake touch. Riders looking for an added degree of reassuring braking performance – all Ninja 650 are fitted with front and rear ABS. Compact Bosch 9.1M ABS unit contributes to both weight and space savings.
The Ninja 650’s fine-tuned rider triangle provides both control and comfort. The low seat (790mm) and the bike’s overall design ensure it is easy to reach the ground. Separate, raised handlebars mounted to the upper triple clamp offer control and comfort; they put the rider in a good position for sport riding. Mounting clamp for the handlebars is rubber-mounted to reduce vibration transmitted through the handle grips. Stylish upper triple clamp features strength-reinforcing ribs on its upper surface.
4.3” all-digital TFT (thin-film transistor) colour instrumentation gives the cockpit a high-tech, high-grade appearance and excellent visibility. The screen’s background colour is selectable (black or white), and screen brightness adjusts automatically to suit available light.

Kawasaki’s advanced traction control system provides both enhanced sport riding performance and the peace of mind under certain conditions to negotiate low-traction surfaces with confidence. Two modes allow riders to adjust settings to suit the riding situation and rider preference.
